Diezel, calling herself a Superstroke Pop Artist, was born in South Africa and currently divides her time between her studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Sydney, Australia. Her work is strongly influenced by the Pop Art movement of the 1960s, drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Roy Lichtenstein. Plus signs, symbols of hope and optimism, and dripping paint, representing the experiences that shape an individual’s perspective, are hallmark elements of her work. Her art often features native animals and childhood cartoon characters, such as Obelix and Asterix, to explore themes of colonialism, economic exploitation, and personal identity. In her series of dog paintings, she explores canine qualities—loyalty, love, and protection—as metaphors for societal and cultural differences.
