Malachite Painting

I have always loved the variegated colors of malachite--the deep pthalo greens marbled with lighter greens and whites. Just recently,I read that in ancient Egypt the color green had something to do with death and resurrection, new life and fertility. It was believed that there were fields of malachite in the afterlife where there was no pain and no suffering. In this painting there is a harmonious assemblage of different shapes, suggesting different layers of earth and buried archaeological treasures where this mineral was mined. My hope is that the viewer will see this as a landscape in which there are only shapes, colors and beauty.
