Malletts Bay Mt Mansfield Sunrise Vermont 2018 Painting

I love my originating photo from the year prior for this painting ( 2017 ), but I couldn't reconcile my feeling of solitude in the cold dusk as the sun began to light the bay, with so many boats in the water, and opted for a similarly solitary boat for my oil painting, Malletts Bay Mt Mansfield Sunrise Vermont 2018. Up close, there's a mixture of strong pigment load strokes overlaid on both smooth passages of paint, and films of color dancing on the canvas weave (see detail crop closeup in additional pics). There's both a raw sense of evident colors, and swatches of color fields, co-existing, mingling, like dusk itself, a rise of light within the night. From most any distance, what most immediately seems to catch viewers' attention, are the alternating light-dark patterns. silhouettes, colors waking in the dawn. I also usually like to try my hand at a new (in this case 2024) rendition of older work, and should have a small watercolor based off both my 2016 photo & this, my 2018 oil. The new rendition is usually different from either in significant, yet recognizable style.
