Yannig Guillevic (b. 1964 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France) is painter who lives and works in Paris and Sainte-Anne d'Auray - France. He’s been living in many countries for 12 years where he worked with many artists. After working as an art dealer in Paris for 3 years, YG decided to head back to art school : 1 year in Spain – Velasquez Studio in Bilbao, and 3 years in France – Lorient’ School of Fine Arts. Then he’s been living in London, Hermosillo (Mexico) and Los Angeles where he studied Op Art, Primitive Art and Pattern Decoration which helped focus research in a certain rehabilitation of ornamental in contemporary art. Yannig Guillevic is known for his brown ink works on paper called BG or Brown Guillevic. BG is a matter which is constituted of walnut stain enriched with several adjuvants to improve its characteristics, in particular its resistance over time. The origine of that chemical process is an accident in his studio in 1997. In February 2000, Yannig Guillevic deposited a Soleau envelope, registering the paint formula under the name Brown Guillevic or BG at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). « The BG is a technique that requires great precision of the gesture, due to the very fast drying characteristics of the matter. My INSPIRATION comes from my passion for Chinese painting since I’m 9 years old. Later, I became interested in Pierre Soulages’ works, especially its walnut stain works he painted in 1947-49. Then, Henri Michaux and the automatic writing in his paintings and drawings. My EXPIRATION is the result of a BG on the sheet of paper. The idea is to immerse mylself into the darkness, to better bring work to light. We all meet with accidents in life. For a long time, I have been trying to fight darkness. I only find the light of a blanck page to soothe me. » Private collections : numerous world wide collectors particularly in France, UK and USA. Public collections (selected) : « Jesus washing His disciples' feet », Saint Tugdual Church (France), monumental painting. « Memento mori », Vannes Diocese (France), BG and gold leaves.
