About The Artwork

What/who inspired the work? I was conceptually inspired by a photograph by Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers next to a small piano in the "Section Cinéma" (1972), the seventh and final section of his Musée d'Art Moderne. Formally, I was inspired by the French painter Henri Matisse, known both for his use of color and for his fluidity and originality in drawing. The intense colorism of the works he painted between 1900 and 1905 gave him notoriety as one of the "Fauves" (wild beasts). “The Paintings Section” is the only section of the Davis Museum where works of art are sold. Support the Davis Museum art project by purchasing this painting now from Saatchi Art. The Paintings Section From Davis Museum in Public and Private Collections • Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain • Ashish Mistry Collection, Atlanta, USA. • Daniel Marcoux Collection, Montreal, Canada • Denise Siqueira Collection, São Paulo, Brazil • Francesc Torres Collection, Barcelona, Spain • Geert De Kegel Collection, Zele, Belgium • James Dacre Collection, London, UK • Philip Henderson Collection, Atlanta, USA. • Soteris Argyrou Collection, Nicosia, Cyprus • Taylor Smith Collection, Indianapolis, USA. • Yellowstone Club Collection, Big Sky, Montana, USA.
