ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is part of the The Paintings Section from Davis Museum Barcelona and is a pictorial reinterpretation of Julian Wasser's "Duchamp smoking in front of Fountain." I hope viewers understand the narrative in the history of art that deals with artists who created their own museums, such as Duchamp's "Boîte-en-valise." However, in this painting, Duchamp is not smoking, but rather covering his face with the "Galerie légitime", a paper hat traveling art gallery created by Robert Filliou, in 1962-1963. The Paintings section from the Davis Museum in Public and Private Collections includes: The Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection in Viladecans, Spain. The Ashish Mistry Collection in Atlanta, USA. The Daniel Marcoux Collection in Montreal, Canada. The Denise Siqueira Collection in São Paulo, Brazil. The Francesc Torres Collection in Barcelona, Spain. The Geert De Kegel Collection in Zele, Belgium. The James Dacre Collection in London, UK. The James Norton Collection, Blue Ridge, Georgia, USA. The Johnny Temple Collection in Uxbridge, Canada. The Philip Henderson Collection in Atlanta, USA. The Soteris Argyrou Collection in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Taylor Smith Collection in Indianapolis, USA. The Yellowstone Club Collection in Big Sky, Montana, USA.

Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
