ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Southwest of Key West the furthermost island in the chain known as the Florida Keys lies a large mangrove island called the Marquesas, a name given by the Spanish conquistadores of many years ago. Here on the East side of the island there is a natural inlet which gives access to the center lagoon where a ship can spend days or months in safety from the many storms which assault the keys every year.

I, Fernando Alberto Soler was born in Havana Cuba in 1947. Our family migrated to the US and the island of Key West in 1956 where I graduated from Key West High School in 1966. I was inducted into the US Coast Guard in 1967 and released in 1971, that year I entered Ringling School of Art in Sarasota Florida where I live now. I have had several sign businesses since art school and have exhibited my fine art in many shows and galleries receiving many awards in the process.
