About The Artwork

Mary Stevenson Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker. She began studying painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia despite her family objections for her becoming a professional artist. Part of her parents' concern may have been Cassatt's exposure to feminist ideas. Cassatt was a lifelong advocate of equal rights for the sexes. Mary lived much of her adult life in France where she befriended Edgar Degas and exhibited with the Impressionists. This portrait is loosely based on her photograph as a young woman and it is a part of series of portraits depicting women Impressionists painters. Painted on Saunders ( British paper )300 grams hot presses paper. Half standard sheet. 100% cotton and acid free.

Born in Croatia in 1958, Tony Belobrajdic is a Sydney based figurative artist. He started exhibiting in the late seventies and had his first solo show in 1983 in Croatia. Tony moved to New York in 1987 where he continued his art practice. He exhibits both in Sydney and Europe regularly. Acrylics, watercolours and oils have been the mediums of choice. Etchings is the latest medium being explored and studied with a great passion. His style could be described as contemporary impressionism, mostly portraits and figures. Tony's artwork demonstrates distinct freedom using spontaneous brushstrokes and vivid colours. He combines layered figuration of human forms put in abstract situations.
