About The Artwork

An embroidery of the early twentieth century, representing “the art of painting”, shows a woman intent to portrait; it’s a textile matrix from which the artist creates a series of frottages elaborated with layers of color, in which the material is thickened like an abstract painting. The art of painting, or the Muse of painting, cannot be expressed in a direct figurativity, but it is like an essence perceived through the capture of her substance becoming matter, colour, nuances. Starting from the matrix (mater, matrix, woman, queen, empress, birth-giver) multiples have been elaborated, flaking reproducibility of the copy through a meticulous work on the colour and on the evanescence of the shape through the chromatic density. The works follow an unconscious trace where the images are unfinished, compared to the main model, cloaked with idealism and symbolism.

I am a visual artist. I currently live and work between Palermo (Italy) and San Sebastian (Spain). In my research I deepen and elaborate ecological and social issues. Most of my work involves audience involvement. My practice includes a reflection on the tangible and intangible heritage of the territories in which I operate. I have undertaken many art projects focused on intercultural dialogue and awareness of the right to international mobility, shown by various museums and international foundations. The experiences of the community projects are deepened through drawing and painting, reaching a large production of artworks with a more intimate character in which often memories and traces of participatory paths emerge. Among the most recent projects and exhibition we mention: -Lur Sarek-Reti di terra, Chiesa di Santa Eulalia, Instituto Cervantes, Palermo, BAM Biennal. - PaNingenesi, 2021, Land art performance curated by Lori Adragna, Parco Archeologico di Selinunte in collaboration with Riso-Museo Regionale d'Arte contemporanea di Palermo, Monira Foundation, Jersey City (USA) - PAN-GEA, 2020, augmented reality artwork for Arkad, Les Parallèles du Sud, Manifesta 13 Biennial, Marseilles (France). -I'm Blooming, performance and installation for the Group show ONE VOICE | CHANGE IS IN UNITY. Fondazione Sant’Elia, Palermo in collaboration with Fondazione Fugaz Arte De Convivir - Perù e Mana Contemporary - USA. -The Bread House, 2016-2019. An itinerant project art device hosted by the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation of Turin, the RISO Contemporary Art Museum of Sicily, the Civic Museum of Salemi, the Iméra-Université Aix-Marseille Foundation and the Centre Tignous, Montreuil, Paris. After spending time in residency in immigrant reception centers, the artist invited local community representatives to partake in workshops, developing an opportunity for dialogue through the experience of bakery. -We are here / Nous Sommes Ici, 2016-2017, Mucem, Marseilles in collaboration with RISO Contemporary Art Museum of Sicily. -Il Traffico, 5x5x5 Program of Manifesta 12, 2018. Participation in the project curated by the Finnish artists group Collective Intelligence in collaboration with Myymälä2 contemporary art gallery, and Dimora Oz, Palermo. -Piazza connection, 2018. An artistic research conducted by international groups of artists, resulting into a book and a video-installation displayed in Kaoz, Manifesta12 Collateral event.
