About The Artwork

"Me vs Merry" is one of the works of Offline Project. The idea for it came up in 2019. My sister was visiting me and I remembered an old school game called Sea Battle. During the game, a question came up about the fact that now people are increasingly choosing online communication instead of "live" one; instead of "live" ten friends there are thousands of virtual ones, which, in fact, are not friends. And when at the end of the game I looked at a piece of paper (on which we played), I thought, what if I paint it in bright colors? The next thought was, what if I encouraged people to live communication through this simple game? More information about Offline Project you can find on my Instagram page @ninamariart. I as a matter of principle work without any aids such as painters tape. I'm old-fashioned in this, but such handcrafted work with its small flaws gives the picture a barely visible movement. It's as if the painting breathes.

Nina Mári is a Ukrainian artist whose work is inextricably linked with the study of social processes. She lives and works in Kyiv. After graduating from art school, Nina continued her studies by herself. Art of the early twentieth and early twenty-first century became for the young artist a basis for reflection and experimentation. Her work is characterized by duality, as she belongs to a generation that was born and raised in the analog era and now lives and works in the digital one. She is looking back to old practices and looking for new uses for them. Nina's goal for herself is to make art that speaks to the viewer on topics relevant to contemporary society. "I am most interested in why we "are what we are?" My projects are primarily mental because they encourage reflection and create a generational dialogue. I explore social processes, and it is these that are at the core of my artistic practice. It is a combination of reflection, contemplation, intuition and ongoing self-discovery. Contests 2020 – Finalist of Sheptytsky Biennale (Lviv, Ukraine).
