About The Artwork

Melancholic circles is a series of paintings that I started after a stay in Ardeche (France). Back to Paris, I reviewed Lars von Triers movie Melancholia. Then, I decided to reproduce this state of being of an absolute destabilization. Arriving a Vence, I continued the series in my new studio, The Sainte-Bernadette Chapelle. This building, located in the backyard of a retirement home, had a cold room next to my workspace. And since there was no water point in the workshop, I had to wash my brushes in the morgue. This neighborhood with death influenced my work. My paintings have become end-of-the-world landscapes.

My work is part of a search for crossovers between the image created with a digital medium, painting and drawing. This mix is the result of my training, in painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts of Sofia (Bulgaria) and animation/digital image at the National School of Decorative Arts of Paris.  I have a great interest in image processing software. I use it as a painting tool and also as a means to explore the process of materialization/ dematerialization of painting. Indeed, I consider everything as painting. I print my digital images and transcribe them into drawing or painting. In the end, it gives birth to new, completely different works.  I am inspired by light, colour and exoticism. I define my creations as intuitive and intimate. According to my vision, art must be part of everyday life. Therefore, I use my smartphone a lot in my creation. I am often inspired by images posted on social networks, different places, meetings. Thus, my creation, a permanent work in progress, evolves within the new contexts.
