An Indian house scene where a woman is palying sitar. As the melodies flow from her sitar, it feels as though Saraswati's essence is present, blessing the woman with wisdom and creativity. In this sacred moment, the line between the earthly and divine fades, making playing the sitar a beautiful act of worship. The calm morning, filled with her enchanting music, becomes a testament to her devotion and the goddess's presence. Wash painting is a Japanese technique that Abanindranath Tagore introduced to the Indian art scene. This technique involves using diluted watercolors to create soft, flowing images with subtle gradations of color, emphasizing simplicity and elegance. Though this technique has evolved over time, influenced by various artists and their unique methods, it remains a powerful form of artistic expression. I am sharing a little glimpse of my technique that I have followed to produce this artwork. A line drawing has been transferred to the paper. After filling the colours and doing the line work artwork is ready to go for a colour fixing stage. Then painting goes under a very gentle running water for few minutes where all the superficial layer of colours will be washed away and remaining colours will be fixed permamnently. This stage also prepares the artwork for its next stage, applying the wash of colours. Then again paper needs to be wet and flatten on a board where desired colours has be apllied in different sections of painting while mixing them in wet stage to get a smooth finish to avoid any streaks. The artowk has to be dry again before following the same process again depending on the needs twice or more. In the final finishing stage line work has be to be done, colours are only filled if required or in shadows. For the highlights in some areas a sharp blade has been used very carefully to scrape the top layer of colours. White colour has not been used anywhere during or in the finishg process.
