Memories of Warsaw "Remember Them and Celebrate Life" Painting

During the years from 1967 till the end of 1969 I have been a post-graduale student at the Academia Stuk Piękniech in Warsaw after I had finished the Art Academy Rietveld in Amsterdam. This stay has made an enormous impression on my life and creativity. A part of my paintings that I have made, until now, find their inspiration from the life and images I have seen in that period. Some of the houses in ul. Grzybowska and ul.Ciepla are a part of my paintings. This is the façade of a building standing in the ul.Grzybowska 24. It was one of the last existing buildings in the Getto. As a student I took pictures of that building in 1968. Right now there is a hotel Radisson at the same place. While painting I found out with the help of a picture taken at the end of September 1939, (Germans and Russians had already occupied and strangled Poland), that a Jewish undertaker had one of his stores there. It is the second boarded up shop from the left in my painting. After I had painted the façade I painted the divine nature and the amazing reflecties in the water, or should I say soul. Between the two worlds or thoughts I painted the text in Yiddish, "Gedenk in zey un frey zikh mitn lebn", "Remember them and celebrate life".
