Art runs in my family, and as the daughter of a famous artist, I was taught the fundamentals of drawing and painting over a lifetime. However, I went to school and became a Doctor of Clinical Psychology; an endeavor I pursued to understand others byway of understanding myself. Or perhaps to understand myself byway of understanding others. This relationship, regardless of the direction it takes, also reflects the way I create art. To be a psychologist is to transverse the canvas of another person’s mind, thoughts, experiences. However, it is a one-way encounter. My art is a way for me to share the inner workings of my mind, thoughts, experiences in a way that also connects with the inner workings of the viewer. It is a two-way street. The meaning behind my paintings depends on what you see. To me they represent both the abstract and the figurative. Sometimes I think of my paintings like a personal Rorschach test. “What do I see?”, “What does that mean?”, “Why does it look like that?”. The interesting part of this process is that the viewer can do the same. “What does it look like to you?”, “What does that mean to you” and in answering those questions you not only learn about yourself, but the art becomes uniquely yours.
