Messiah Painting

One of my favorite works is Handel's "Messiah", and I had determined to attempt a visual portrayal of the musical piece for some time. After suffering a mild heart attack with no apparent bad effects, I decided that this would be a good time to do this. It began as the words from the libretto, but soon evolved into a more all encompassing piece. I had to stretch the canvas several times to get it tight enough to work on, and then started the painting in the shop window of an art supply store in Little Rock. It created quite a stir being the first time that an artist had worked there. After a time I realised that I needed to bring the canvas home so that I could work on some scaffolding near the top of the painting. I eventually completed it in about two year off and on, with a quote from "Revelations".
