Mid-Century Atomic Dangle Painting

The image size is 22" x 18" but with a standard mat and framed it would be about 30" x 26". This abstract painting integrates mid-century inspired design elements and colors to recall the 1950’s and 60’s with curiosity and whimsy. The shapes reflect ultra-modern space pods, boomerangs and atomic stars that dangle like Calder’s mobiles. The painting is informed by memories of the popular television cartoon of the era, “The Jetsons.” Incorporating the neon colors and trippy patterns of the 1960’s hippy culture, Rachel Paxton invents an abstract world that envisions a mash up of these two iconic decades overlaid with her own contemporary sensibilities.
