Ludmila Muravjova's work echoes the sense of isolation and introspection famously explored in Édouard Manet’s painting "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère" (1882). In Manet's piece, the barmaid stands at the centre, seemingly detached from the world around her, yet her reflection in the mirror invites view...

I am an award winning artist living and working in London, UK, with a degree in Painting and Fine Arts from the University of Arts London, Wimbledon College of Arts, London. My current artistic practice delves into the dynamic interplay between urban environments and the rhythms that shape our experience of them. Through abstract forms and compositions, I explore the pulse of city life—the ebb and flow of movement, the contrasts of structure and chaos, and the silent conversations between light and shadow. Using a mixed-media approach that often incorporates bold colours, fragmented shapes, and textured surfaces, my work seeks to capture the essence of urbanity. It is characterised by its vibrant use of colour, strong geometric lines, and a sense of movement that captures the pulse of urban life, and work often oscillates between abstraction and representation. Each piece is a visual rhythm, reflecting the patterns of human interaction, architectural landscapes, and the unspoken energy that pulses through the streets. The compositions frequently explore the juxtaposition of organic forms with rigid structures, reflecting the contrasts and dualities inherent in urban environments. I seek for the atmospheric quality, where colour and form interact to create a mood or sensation that invites viewers to interpret the cityscape on both a visual and emotional level. I am interested in the structural aspects of city life—the grids, patterns, and architectural elements that define urban spaces. My intent is to balance these elements with a sense of fluidity and movement and to reflect the emotional undercurrents of urban environments using vibrant palettes and their ability to convey the mood of a place and thus to create a sensory experience that invites viewers to experience the city not just as a backdrop, but as a living, breathing entity. By abstracting these elements, I aim to offer a fresh perspective on how we navigate and relate to our built environments. My inspiration comes from abstract expressionism, especially from the works and technique of Gerhard Richter. My works are in over 60 collections worldwide.
