Guido Albanese was born in 1968 in Barletta, Puglia, where he still lives and pursues his artistic activity. His current research is dedicated to nature—particularly landscapes and elements extracted from it, such as clouds and water. His creative process is multidisciplinary, drawing on various styles and expressive languages, and integrates painting, photography, with influences from cinematography, digital art, and artificial intelligence. He is drawn to subjects such as desert regions, mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, and expansive cloudscapes—not tied to real places but generated from his imagination. These compositions are constructed a priori through sketches, studies, drawings, photomontages, 3D environments in CGI, or with the aid of generative AI. His intent is to evoke primitive environments inspired by profound emotional states in which contemplation, memories, and intuitions converge. Spaces where time and place seem suspended, immersed in surreal atmospheres that allude to the infinite, with a style that oscillates between dreamlike realism, expressionism, and abstraction depending on the medium employed. MEDIUM AND TECHNIQUES He mixes and contaminates various expressive languages and disciplines. In his painting, he adopts a style oscillating between expressionist realism and neo-romanticism, also influenced by Eastern art: it is not mere mannerism or a copy of reality, but an imaginary reconstruction, deliberately imprecise, often giving way to freer gesturality. This approach is embodied in the Another World cycle. Alongside this, an ibridization process between painterly texture and digital manipulation takes place: images from his paintings and archival photographs are digitally merged with visual-processing software, or printed and then manually modified with acrylic colors and varnishes, as seen in the Caput Mundi series. PHOTOGRAPHY His use of photography initially originated from the need to build an archive of different kinds of skies and clouds, to be used as reference for landscape paintings and illustrations. Gradually, these images gained autonomy and eventually became the focal point of an aesthetic investigation aimed at capturing the beauty of an ephemeral phenomenon frozen in an unrepeatable moment. CGI AND GENERATIVE AI CGI and generative artificial intelligence constitute another major component in Albanese’s artistic research.
