Art Description

Painting: Oil, Paint on Canvas.

Traditionally the inhabitants of the Society islands in French Polynesia celebrate their heritage with a festival called "Orero", where children compete to be the best oral story teller. The day is filled with dancing and dramatic story telling and costumes made of flowers and leaves. I am always inspired by the beauty of these people, and the quality of the light. I loved the serious yet contained mirth in this young girl's stare. It reminded me of the Mona Lisa.
