Art Description

Painting: Acrylic and Oil on Canvas.

Within a perfect square I've arranged the values from one to twentfour proportioned as rectangles within a grid of six columns. Prime numbers are realised in various colours. Non-primes, unmarked, provide the remaining structure of the design. The value one, the sole divider of all the primes, is rendered black.

The structure and proportions of this work remind me of Mondrian's paintings, hence the title.

On the other hand I can't resist using texture and a totally un-mondrian colour palette within my work. This work sits firmly within my facination with exploring the visual patterning potential of the prime number series.

Keywords: prime numbers, Primes, 1 to 24, mondrian homage, prime proportioned areas
