In “Monkey Madness”, anthropomorphized apes are depicted in a battle scene. Not unintentionally, the image is reminiscent of Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel “Planet of the Apes” - now made famous through a series of films. In “Planet of the Apes”, the tables are turned, so that the apes are the perpetrators of violence and humans the victims. In reality, whilst our closest evolutionary cousins, are indeed capable of violence, they are certainly no match for the organized, strategized, and even normalized grand scale acts of violence committed by humanity – against other humans, against animals, and against nature. Ultimately, "Monkey madness" suggests a historic and ongoing battle – a war that is forever being reinvented and a race of beings yet to fully “evolve”.
