"Monte Cicerale, Via San Donato", oil on canvas, 46x55cm (53x62cm with frame) - painted "en plein air" in Monte Cicerale village, near Salerno, Campania region, Italy. Painting outdoors. Peinture sur le motif. (...) A valuable work has to speak for itself, break away from its author and live its own life. The spaces immortalized in the Serge Vasilendiuc’s wandering are included in a slightly ingenious way, reminding the naive painting of Henri Rousseau and also the metaphysical spaces by de Chirico. The brush stroke is certain, carefully polished with the clearness which often charms by the overlap of the chromatic layers. On the other hand, I would say that it also aspires to surrealism but in a restrained way, slightly outdated. The author hides something in his works, there is a tactic silence, the game of angles, curves and lines which means more than houses, squares or plastered walls. He hides the presence of the man, completely absent in his works but his presence can be felt in every piece of stones or bricks. However it is the presence of a man who hides something away or hides out from something. Nobody can explain that, even the moon which watches unreservedly somewhere from above or from the bottom but certainly with eyes wide open. (Bogdan Bretoiu)
