ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspiration This piece is a beautiful reminder of Mother Nature and that glorious wildflower meadows appear in springtime, mountain ranges continue to top with snow during the winter season, rivers still run, the ocean teems with creatures, the moon waxes and wanes every month. This moon reminds us that anytime you're feeling low, you can still quietly call in trips you once took, cities you visited, people you lost yourself with, forests that bathed you in cool oxygen, sunsets and night skies that mesmerized you, and vistas that made you hold your breath with awe. About my Process Cyanotypes are a photographic process that use a UV-sensitive emulsion that reacts with the sun to create ethereal images in blue and white. Since this process is so dependent on the weather, light conditions, seasons, and timing, there is an unpredictable nature to the outcome of each piece that can’t be replicated. To me, this is part of the mystery of this art form. In addition to the outdoor elements required for cyanotype creation, I used seed pods and collage to create this piece. This piece uses thick, bright white, Arches watercolor paper with deckled edges. It’s intriguing to me that the subject matter, the paper substrate, and even the piece itself uses Nature as an integral part of its creation process. I'm collaborating with Nature to create art in celebration of Nature. My hope is that when people experience this collection, they feel an immediate sense of connection and grounding with Nature. A moment of calm during a stressful day. Unique features Please note that due to the cyanotype process, there may be slight undulations in the paper and each piece features a unique blue ranging from cyan to indigo to Prussian blue. This is normal. This piece is 22x 30 inches and unframed. It would look stunning when float mounted in a thin brushed silver, black, or light maple frame.

Yasmin Youssef is a mixed media artist, dancer, and user experience designer. She grew up in a multi-ethnic blended family, which has informed her journey through her creative careers. Her use of deep layers, texture, symbolism, color and mark making elicit a sense of wonder in the viewer. These elements combine gracefully with her mediums of collage, cyanotype, paint, plaster, vintage ephemera, and gold leaf. When experienced together, the style, emotions, and themes of Yasmin’s work bring moments of peace and quiet connection to oneself and the natural world.
