Moonlight is part of a series of paintings called Contemporary Icons, which explores portraiture through art and decoration found within religious buildings. This painting is about the moon, creativity and finding the muse. She is thoughtful and passive, yet meditative.

NICOLA WILTSHIRE (b.1987 UK) completed her BA at University of Westminster, London (2009) and her MFA at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee (2015). Nicola observes the world through her paintings; using colour and shape to evoke the feeling of a place, person or experience. Images of walks and domestic interiors are amongst the themes used to create a quiet and uplifting space. Each painting begins with patterned fabric stretched over a wooden frame. Nicola draws in charcoal and makes her own oil paint using centuries-old techniques. The work is the result of an enchantment with colour, texture, materials and pattern, plus a celebration of art’s history.
