Motherhood Painting

For some reason this painting feels like a self portrait, in no way do I identify with her beauty, majesty or strength but have once during my career as a mother found myself single (leopards are not pride animals) and once found myself just as ferocious. When my son was only 3 months old he contracted pneumonia, which landed him in ICU. I consider myself to be a tough girl, but to this day have never felt so overcome with fear and helplessness. The doctors recommended that my husband take me for a drive to escape the hospital as my mental state had become somewhat scary, with even the suggestion from Tom of leaving my son’s side I almost had security remove his father from the ward. I felt like an animal protecting her cub, from what Tom tells me, I was just as scary. The peadiatrician taking care of Dyllan eventually told me he would admit me to a psychiatric unit across the road if I didn't leave for a while. My beautiful boy is now a strapping 16 year old and I am just as ferocious!
