Moulton Ave II Painting

My neighborhood in LA has issues with the mentally ill and unhoused. They are very physically close to Me so that I can hear and see them -just as if they were in my space. They’re roommates of sorts. Every morning I awake to see and hear chaos on the street. Last week a whole RV burned down to the ground. Two weeks before, there was so much garbage on the street that the police were called. One evening as I painted into the night, a man rammed his truck into his girlfriend. This morning a woman in a bathrobe, played a ukulele and screamed while her dog chased after an escaped kite. It’s often peaceful but just as often a cacophony of sound and activity. I painted this man as if under a bell jar. The light refracts and colors and shapes distort multiple legs- some human, some animal. When one is mentally ill, things become distorted and confusing.
