‘Mountain View with stars’ Painting

I painted this in the garden in summer near the sea side. Before I painted it I had a clear idea of the energy I wanted it to give off: a sense of the sea, sun and flowers surrounding me and also for it to have a focal point (the centralised shape - can also be interpreted as a figure) to create an epicentre where the atmosphere would appear to be dynamically circling around it (attributing to the way I wanted this painting to recall nature on earth and how it effects me as a person). This sentence describes the mindset and motivation for the painting: ‘The towering trees, blue sky and mountains around me and the thoughts of the numerous stars that appear every evening’. I thought of ways to fully simplify these things into total abstraction. It soon became a dedication to painting the way the sensation of the sublime felt to me. When the painting reaches a viewer I hope they find something in ‘Mountain view with stars’ which creates an experience.
