ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'Mountain' is clearly inspired by the environment where I live. I am currently living in Switzerland, surrounded by mountains, besides I go frequently to Engadin, and on my way while driving to, I always see this chain of mountains, Tuggen in Canton Schwyz. They really caught my eye, and I decided to take some pictures. Afterwards in my studio, I decided to draw a draft, but only of a peak that I find very special, that is the one on the painting. As I like to deconstruct the images I have in mind to make an abstraction, I started adding some texture with gesso to the canvas, and continuing with several layers of unconventional colours that represents the blue mountain at dawn. I would like to call on the Nature, that we take for granted, but that we all should take care of. The positive energy that gives us when observing it, when enjoying it, we should use it to keep it save.

I was born in Seville, Spain. I am currently living in Zug (Switzerland). To me Art gives a sense to everything. It is essential, central, basic core. It allows me to convey freely in my personal way. It lessens the inexorable passing of Time, which used to aesthetic purpose offers me the opportunity to connect to my intimate self, and to connect to the world. I consider my works are mainly influenced by modern and contemporary artists. In particular by abstract expressionism like Gerhard Richter, or neoexpressionism such as Anselm Kiefer. Goya’s pinturas negras are always present, as well as the light in Sorolla’s paintings or the french Impressionists like Claude Monet. I like playing with insinuation, giving hints to the viewers to feel free to imagine and create their own discourse, and therefore following Miles Davis quotation: ‘Don’t play what’s there. Play what is not there.’
