About The Artwork
I want to create something that does not exist in watercolour. Watercolour may be known as a traditional medium, but it has unlimited possibilities. This work lies between sculpture and painting, between abstract and figurative. It is a continuation of my previous abstract watercolour mosaics, with the addition of this figurative black and white figurative element. Like the others, it is an assemblage of a number of watercolours painted on paper, which are then cut, folded and connected to make the final piece. I hope this piece signals a new direction in this series started after I moved from Italy to Germany.

As a young boy he was drawing and painting with watercolour and recording what he saw on paper. Later, studies in Architecture took him to London and then to Rome, where he settled for a number of years before moving to Milan, and finally on to Berlin where he now lives and paints. Painting is his vocation, it has accompanied him everywhere. He is autodidact. He first paints sometimes hundreds of small individual abstract watercolours on 300 gram paper. Then he cuts and fold them, connecting each piece within a structure to compose a larger work. These watercolours border on sculptural - he calls them watercolour mosaics.
