Dr. H. H. Holmes was America's first serial killer. He was an educated man, even went to to school to become a doctor yet, he was quite the con artist. He set up a pharmacy and built large hotel above it. During the Chicago World Fair he lured in victims by telling them to stay in his hotel but his hotel was filled with traps. Rooms that he could fill with gas, rooms with beds that would drop victims down shoots, door that led no where, and hallways that became mazes. He would play cruel games with his victims. When he killed them he threw them down into the basement and sold their skeletons to medical schools. The victim in this painting is seeing her own fate. Becoming a skeleton to be placed on display. Yet, a skeleton with no hands because I wanted to represent that often Dr. H. H. Holmes rarely killed his victims with his own hands.
