About The Artwork

This diptych (two pieces hung together as one piece) is a weathered collage, covered with vintage newspapers from the 60s with bold gestural black paint strokes and colorful undercoats peaking through. Collage is created on reclaimed beefy 1.5" deep window frames. Signed and dated on the back. Multiple coats of matte varnish protect and seal the piece. Art is gallery wrapped, so no need for framing. Each panel has two D-rings on the back with heavy duty plastic-coated wire–ready to hang and start a conversation in any space. With both pieces hung together as shown measure 47.5" tall x 36" wide. Each panel measures 47.5" tall x 18" wide and weighs 10 pounds each. And people ask, "why the title?" The titles of the collage pieces I create, come directly from the exposed text in the artwork. Can you find it?

History. My current work highlights the surreal mix of gritty reality and squeaky clean idealism that could be found in the newspapers of decades gone by. I love the word play of the news headlines and wacky sales pitches of the advertisements along serious stories of the day. I layer clippings and elements of street landscape with vibrant color. I treat each piece as a sponge that absorbs and allows me to build a history of layers that can be interpreted in infinite ways. I am a native Angeleno and currently live in the Los Angeles area. My artwork is part of private collections in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Colorado, Massachusetts, Miami, Honolulu and Austria. I head my own graphic design business, Digital Lava Graphic Design, which focuses on the entertainment industry, as well as institutes of higher education and nonprofit organizations.
