About The Artwork

This handmade, original, sleek, bold, fresh seascape abstraction is full of colour, life, energy, and it expresses the elemental forces at play in the marshes. It is based around a number of research trips I did to the Essex mudflats in England in 2019. The piece was created for a Solo Show in the summer of 2019 for Mersea Barn Gallery and was subsequently exhibited there for 8 weeks during the summer months. I wanted to capture the impression of the expanse of the salt marshes from above, but juxta-pose the elemental forces of the Spring tides and the constant flux of the area. The process consisted of visiting the Island on a number of occasions, creating sketches, preliminary studies and taking pictures with my SLR camera. Once my research was completed I headed back into my studio in Sheffield and worked on the piece on the floor to give a physical energy and the impression of being above the saltmarsh. I used very thin oil paint application and physically walked around the painting, moving the paint around the canvas by turning the wooden canvas stretcher. Created with responsibly sourced quality canvas, wood, oil paints, mediums and varnishes. I also use an ECO environmentally friendly alternative to traditional turpentine. Signed on the front. It is ready to hang and would suit a variety of diverse interior settings.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I draw my inspiration from the constant possibilities of painting and the challenge of its unpredictable nature in conveying a subject. I am most interested in the process of painting and the expression it provides, translating a depth of feeling that is both personal but also shared with the viewer. Psychotherapy has directly influenced recent work and renewed my interest in abstract expressionism with the freedom of colour, line and allowing the subconscious and memory to guide my work. My current work explores the raw emotions I have experienced through personal challenges including the corrosive effects of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), infertility and a recent incurable auto-immune disease diagnosis. Whilst these experiences are highly personal, I believe that by exploring those emotions in my work I am creating a voice where one might normally be at risk of being suppressed and hidden.
