Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
This painting draws inspiration from a photograph of the fictional "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles, Section XIXème siècle," created by Marcel Broodthaers in Brussels in 1968. It is formally influenced by the textured paintings of Anselm Kiefer, known for his historical and philosophical themes depicted with thick layers of oil, sand, and lead. The artwork aims to convey the narrative of artists creating their own museums, exemplified by Marcel Duchamp's "Boîte-en-valise," Robert Filliou's "Galerie légitime," and Marcel Broodthaers' "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles." In 2009, Davis Lisboa established the Davis Museum, featuring "The Paintings Section from Davis Museum," a collection encompassing portraits of Duchamp, Filliou, and Broodthaers, still lifes from the "Boîte-en-valise" and "Galerie légitime," as well as interiors from the "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles."
