Painting: Oil on Canvas.

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

Davis Lisboa, "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles #1", 2012, oil on canvas, 11,8 x 11,8 in

What/who inspired the work?
This work is inspired by a piano in the Marcel Broodthaers's "Musée d'Art Moderne, Section Cinéma" installation (1971-1972).

What do you hope its viewers will feel/think?
I hope the viewers will not see easily the object that has been painted. I hope they are intrigued by the darkness and mystery. And once they discover the piano, I hope they can find the hidden "monolith" or "strange altar" in the same work.

Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style?
I chose oil painting on canvas because it is a sophisticated medium. And I chose a realistic style for it. I like especially as the piano is illuminated on its right side.
