ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was inspired to paint this painting by an ancient custom that has disappeared - Naktigonė. Naktigonė is the communal grazing of horses and oxen in the countryside on summer and autumn nights. Most often, the younger members of the family used to go to the naktigonė. The oxen (separate from the horses) were usually herded by girls. In the communal village pastures, the nightsongs were alternately asleep and awake.
