ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Japanese Zen Calligraphy 'Namu Dai Bosa', brushed on rice paper, mounted and ready to be framed. Namu Dai Bosa means literally “I pay homage to the Great Bodhisattva”, an invocation of the Mahasattva Avalokiteshvara, called Kannon in Japanese or Kuan-yin in Chinese. Namu Dai Bosa encompases taking refuge in the Great Bodhisattva and becoming one with Her/Him. Kannon is the spirit of loving kindness and limitless compassion for all sentient beings. The calligraphy in the semi-cursive style of Japanese calligraphy shows the following characters: 南 無 : NAMU, pay homage to 大 : DAI, great 菩 薩 : BOSA(TSU), Bodhisattva Size of the calligraphy in cm: 42 x 30 x 0.2 cm. Please note that the white borders showing in the 'View in A Room' image are not on the original artwork.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
