Naughty Mickey Series Naughty Mickey sends a message from the canvas to the viewer. Mickey’s gesture conveys an abject rejection of vacuous materialism. There is an irony in the juxtaposition of Mickey’s commercial origins with his tattered material condition. We are not merely a statistical aggregation, we are individuals whose actions make a difference. Mickey’s representation of the individual is made all the more animate through the tactile, pebbled texture of his character on the canvas. The layered ground beneath the subject is indication of a world in disarray, so in need of reinvention.
