Red is the perfect color to capture the energy and excitement of polo. Taking the next step in my painting career I wanted to challenge myself to explore vibrant rich colors in the context of the natural hues of horses and their riders. Adding in the complexity of the polo equipment and riding uniform the result is a visual exploration of the heart of polo. Nearside is the left side of the pony. Offside is the right. The left side is used for leading and mounting. This custom dates back to Medieval times when most warriors were right-handed and carried their weapons on the left side. They mounted from the nearside so the weapon would not get in the way. To see this painting in-progress and more images of this work follow jlnuzbach_equine_artist on Instagram.
