The bird depicted in the painting is based on the magnificent Victoria Crowned Pigeon. Unfortunately due to habitat loss, these birds are mostly kept and bred in captivity today. The painting is divided by two blocks of color, one being a dusty blue, and the other silver with spots. The bird is meticulously painted in detail and sits serenely in the upper half of the painting. Its body rests on a criss-cross of brown and beige stripes that are reminiscent of twigs. The term nest egg means to save money or other assets for future use. In the painting the artist contemplates the future of threatened species.
