Using a mixture of mediums and techniques and of course years of experiece I always love to develop new textures and appearences on my pieces. Each surface creates different feels and finishes whether that be board, canvas or paper, each process always provides a different exciting outcome.

Linda Charles was born in 1969 in the South East of England. She attended Herriot Watt University in Scotland where she studied textiles and fashion. This led her to my interest in abstract work in which she became more and more involved. She began to design work incorporating heavy texture using materials such as gold and silver leaf. The use of colour at the time lent itself to the advent of the interior design boom of the early 2000’s and her work began to sell in large quantities worldwide.

She has always previously been keen to develop her work by fusing certain qualities of my abstract work into real life imagery.
She lives in a beautiful part of Hertfordshire surrounded by nature and rolling countryside and uses her surroundings for inspiration. Her close proximity to the National Trust’s ancient Hatfield Forest, once a favourite hunting location for Henry VIII, provides excellent reference. The forest covers a large unspoilt area featuring a large lake and quiet backwaters. It’s here that she is in her element using my sketch pad or taking photographs.

Once back in the studio she sketches out the scene of her work marking areas she wants to build texture for effect. The vibrancy created by the colours she uses enables her pieces to border delicately between abstract and real life imagery. She aims to create the calm and tranquil feelings she gains from her earlier life experiences in the forest and around the lake.

Linda tends not to work any set hours but typically during the summer and late spring months she will start in the early hours sometimes at first light when she find she has a lot of energy at this time and my passion for creativity is at its highest. She paints in a large, bright conservatory at the back of the house. She likes to have the doors wide open, chilled music playing; and being so close to nature from which she gains her inspiration.

I combine the exciting nostalgia of pulp paperback cover art re-imagined with classic artists and songs Please contact me should you require any further details or a commission of your own..your song, your lyrics! Linda Charles was born in 1969 in the Southeast of England. After attending Herriot Watt University in Scotland where she studied textiles and fashion launched a full time career as a professional artist in the late 90's. This background in textile and fashion has been evident throughout her work which is heavily textured and makes use of many forms of mixed media including gold and silver leaf. Living in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, Linda enjoys drawing on these beautiful surroundings for inspiration whilst walking her beloved Golden Retriever, Douglas. With a career spanning over 25 years Linda continues to use her vast experience and enjoys exploring new techniques and mediums to produce striking collections. In the early 2000's Linda became one of the most prolific abstract artists throughout the UK. At the advent of the interior design boom, Linda’s use of structure, texture, bold colours and gold and silver leaf propelled her into mainstream contemporary art. Her original pieces became collectable and still feature in many galleries and private collections all over the world. Over the following years Linda’s diversity as an artist allowed her to develop and hone her techniques experimenting with textures, design, glassware and digital media. Through these phases new collections were born which really showcased the talent and variation throughout her artwork. Following many shows, exhibitions, appearances and more recently an induction into the permanent collection of the Artemizia Foundation in Arizona Linda continues to push boundaries and search out new niches within contemporary art. Having always a close eye on fashion Linda drew together elements of far eastern cultures and passion for the tranquillity, serenity and vivid colours and embellishment of the Japanese geisha and Indian bridal to produce her stunning fashion couture collections. More recently her latest sell out Pulp re-imagined collections combine her love of the imagery of the pulp paperback books of the 40's, 50's and 60's with a back catalogue of famous hits, artists, and lyrics.
