Inspired by the long, elegant figures of 1920's illustrations (Fred L Packer) and made in response to another of my paintings, Day, I have tried to covey the social, dynamic and 'darker' aspect of life during the night. Shapes being more intimately spaced and the use of a darker, more sophisticated colour pallet helps with this. Colours are also used to establish relationships and groups between the shapes; the difference in delegation of orange and green either side of the blue middle shape. This piece is intended to be thought about with such things in mind, along with space and balance. I'd hope the viewer would contemplate the reasons behind my selections and perhaps even come up with their own rationale as to why they are there, like a meditative exercise The piece is done on heavyweight Fabriano print paper and is painted entirely in oil paint. There is an option for it to come framed or not framed ( I will upload photos of the frame within the next few days) but either way it will be shipped flat and a tube will condition the paper to stay curled. If you require more photos or information do not hesitate to ask

I am a freelance painter who explores the relationship between form and balance through geometric and organic shapes. I attribute ‘mass’ to each shape and act as if my surface is a weighing scales, achieving equilibrium or misbalance. I work as a spectacle maker in London and have trained in stringed instrument craft. Both of these fields influence my more illustrative work.
