No. 089 Painting

The development of my current style started some 15 years ago when, after a long period of more or less abstract-expressionist work, I reengaged with my Dutch roots and found myself drawn to the work of the early 20th Century Dutch geometric abstractionists. I was attracted not only to the totally revolutionary character of their work but foremostly to the total transformation of art and the new possibilities it had to offer. They invented a totally geometric abstract style with no visual reference to our physical world, an entirely new aesthetic based on straight lines and rectangular shapes with limited use of color. For me using these same principles and adapting them to current/contemporary ideals is the main aim of my work. Like my predecessors, my interests evolve/derive from a fascination with order, purity, simplicity, balance and counter balance, equality and equilibrium.
