Andre’s "国父 Father of the Nation" series, is a response and tribute to the leadership and vision that LKY offered to Singapore, then newly-minted homeland. Focusing on a young and vital LKY in his thirties, the series captures some significant moments, including political rallies, election victories and even the breakdown on TV. In Andre’s trademark pop stylizations of graphic outlines and strong colours, his artworks are built up in several layers, much like how the nation has been built up, from a blank canvas to an intricate and detailed composition, as only Mr Lee could have imagined.

Andre Tan obtained his Master of Arts in Fine Arts in 2006. He is the recipient of the Judge’s Choice for the UTGP08-Kenichiro Mogi Prize (2008, Japan), Studentship Scheme (2005) and also the Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship (1999) at the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore. Andre’s work is often viewed in relation to the sensibilities of Pop Art, of reproduced images from pop culture, and in the commercial style of advertising and mass communication. While his deliberation upon Pop Art’s obsession with the everyday and its critique of popular culture is seen in his selection of content for his work, his focus is less the concerns of commercialism per se as its effects and the reflective process engendered. His artworks are collected by private collectors in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Australia and UK.
