About The Artwork
Living in Florida just off the St. Johns River, it is not unusual to see Ospreys. Often while boating, we will see their giant nests built on top of the no wake signs in the river. I happened to catch this one on its nest. I am intrigued by the way the nests are built with all the twigs and moss woven to create a super strong home for their offspring. In my attempt to replicate the nest, I used a technique of applying gesso to the watercolor paper. Doing so allowed me to wipe out color in areas to show highlights and lighter areas without having to mask my whites.
