This is an original watercolour on top quality Italian watercolour paper. It represents some of the gargoyles or chimeras on top of the Notre - Dame Cathedral in Paris. From the top of the cathedral’s towers the stone creatures have had a magnificent view of the city for centuries. To see them up close, you have to climb almost 400 steps. The The staircase is narrow and the steps are fan-shaped, so skip the climb if you're claustrophobic, wearing high heels or simply don't want to die of exhaustion. I have managed that climb twice in my life...easily when I was a University student and very painfully a few years ago. This painting may remind you of such a climb...or may spare you one:-) It is painted with professional grade watercolor paints on top-quality140lb Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper. The painting has been matted in white to 14" wide by 12.5" high. It will be shipped flat to avoid rolling it in a tube.

When I paint, I am happy and feel whole. I paint the beauty of light and the joy I find in life! My work wants to be a sharing of a moment of serenity and balance. It is an expression and reconciliation of my inner dichotomy: I love creativity while needing structure; I love fluidity and softness of colors while craving realist details and lines. Consequently, for example, my watercolour demonstrate realism with colors much enhanced by my imagination. My paintings of sculptures and carvings depict the dancing light on crumbling brickwork, or pastel colors on the stone carvings. In my acrylic or watercolour “Leaves Series”, mysterious but serene light filters through the stems and leaves, water shimmers here and there as the leaves float on the pond. My oil paintings dance with vibrant colors on top of well-structured florals. My first art love was watercolour and my watercolour paintings have won many awards and I have completed major corporate commissions in watercolour. However, I am an explorer at heart and love to try new surfaces, new styles and techniques. I go from watercolour to acrylic paints to mixed media to realistic oils. In the last few years I have become obsessed with detailed oil florals especially of peonies and sunflowers.
