Novalis, who was born 250 years ago this year, is one of the most important representatives of German Romanticism. Romanticism, as a counterposition to the mentality of the Enlightenment, deals with religious aspects, emotions and the longing for an idealized past. Fairy tales, fables and mysteries, among other things, play a major role in artistic creation. The "Blue Flower of Romanticism" symbolizes a great longing for perfect nature, a kind of love affair with nature. The color blue, one of the most important colors of romanticism, becomes the carrier of the longing for longing and love and for the metaphysical striving for the infinite. The Blue flower later also became a symbol of the longing for the distance and a symbol of wandering. In his picture, the painter gets involved in these romantic contents. Building on an expressive color design of the painting surface, a complex romantic imagery gradually emerges.
