The subject is an activist and performance artist who likes to be nude, so I explore how to make somebody who is already nude, more nude and exposed.

I was born and raised in the former Soviet Union and lived in a number of countries before coming to live and work in the United Kingdom. My art is deeply influenced by everyday events. I’m drawn to the visual interpretation of these experiences, seeking meaning and sharing that search through my artworks. I would describe my work as conceptual art, where each painting begins with a simple idea or short phrase — a concept that serves as the heart of the piece. Visually, my style sits somewhere between magic realism and cynical realism, often with a touch of naivety. I like to think of it as “cynical existentialism,” reflecting the humour, irony, and depth I find in lived experience. I take inspiration from many places, but I especially look up to Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne — artists whose sensitivity to light, structure, and emotion I greatly admire, even if I know I’ll never quite reach their heights. I use different techniques and mediums, but oil paint remains my favourite for its richness and versatility. I paint alla prima, working quickly and instinctively — I have too many ideas but never enough time – life is too short. I received a BA (hons) in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University and completed my Master’s degree at Leeds Arts University. Over the years, I’ve taken part in various exhibitions and my work has found its way into private collections both in the UK and abroad. For me, painting is both a reflection and a question — a way of understanding life, one brushstroke at a time.
