Painting, Oil on Canvas

Commissioned art piece for a collector in Canada. Open Edition Prints now available. The work was inspired by the idea of Women being able to feel free while truly themselves. The freedom of being in the nude. The peacefulness which allows for the grace of sleep. Being able to be out in the open and unafraid. The landscape likewise bare and although initially seemingly dark and foreboding is transformed by the intricate spaces of trees, roots, and shadows, into a cohesive ecosystem. Everything is connected. Solidarity in the Gender. A shared experience of what sometimes feels like pitfalls and fear. The austerity of the cold night isn't any less idyllic because the figures aren't reclining on a beach in the sun. If anything, it asks the viewer to perceive a greater measure of beauty in world. It asks the viewer if they literally can see the forest in spite of the trees. As a mindset for any minority, it reminds us that often we are creatures of own circumstance. But that circumstance relies heavily on our perception of it to define whether or not the night sky is just pitch black, or a beautiful tapestry with undulating depths, colors, and hues. Forest and Trees.
