This artwork consists of 12 smaller oil paintings integrated by the author’s custom made and painted frame into one large composition. Semi abstract vessels, construction, and sea creatures, each of them tell its story. This large painting will make your imagination work and discover new and fascinating details every time you look at it.

Complex technique of multiple layers of semi-transparent oil paint of yellow, red, and green colours applied to canvas one after another allowed Alexander to reach this almost three dimensional effect in this painting. This artwork is completed by a golden custom made frame that perfectly matches the paintings.

About The Artwork

"Old Sailor’s Stories," crafted by the deft hands of Alexander Levich, is a captivating collection of oil paintings, each telling a tale as old as the sea itself. Across this large composition, Levich's artistry unfolds in layers of golden greens and yellows, creating a dynamic surface that dances with the light. The artist's signature “intellectual abstraction” is on full display, challenging the observer to discern the shifting forms that reside at the intersection of the real and the abstract. Each panel, meticulously integrated into a larger narrative, provides a gateway to the artist's introspective journey. Levich's frame, an artwork in itself, encapsulates the essence of the sea—its vastness, its mystery, and its allure. This piece is not just a visual encounter but an immersive experience that echoes the artist's philosophy of art as a pathway to the inner self, a luxury of solitude and harmony.

What is the most important thing in life? It's not the external surroundings but our inner world. Painting serves as the key that unlocks this realm. By following this path, one learns not just to look, but to truly SEE. Through my art, I delve into profound content. Painting becomes a medium of communication, a canvas for thoughts. The questions are always deeper than the answers, and the answers are discoveries we make within ourselves. My paintings serve as guides, leading you along the pathways of your own thoughts. I aim to offer you the joy of connecting with your inner world, the luxury of harmony and solitude in communication with yourself. I was born in 1963 in Kyiv, Ukraine, and in 1987, I graduated from the painting faculty of the Kyiv Art Academy, under the guidance of Professor A.M. Lopukhov. Since 1990, I have been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. As a professional artist with over 30 years of experience, my artistic journey can be divided into two main periods. The first period, which spanned over 20 years after my graduation, can be described as "Metarealism." The second period, which I refer to as my "return to realism," began around 2010, you may explore my artworks from both periods showcased here. If you would like to delve deeper into my portfolio, view additional paintings beyond those displayed on this website, or if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly via email at a.levich@protonmail.com. You are also warmly welcome to visit my studio in Kyiv. Thank you sincerely for your interest.
