An old impoverished nobleman tries to court a poor young girl. The picture shows all the ambiguity of the situation. An old man in an attempt to seduce a girl looks stupid and funny. He's pathetic. The girl's pose is to talk about her embarrassment and dislike of this situation. The basket near the bench shows that she does not want the old man to sit next to him.
